Canon 40D, 50mm, ISO 1600, 1/60 @ f 2.8
I liked the year on this ornament. I was 9 yrs old.

My Father pointed out that I was actually 10 yrs old. This was the year I got the Star Wars Death Star for Christmas.

  1. I was 3. My Aunt Linda took my cousin and I downtown on the bus, like every year to see Santa Land on the 10th floor of Meier and Frank's Department Store. We would ride the Monorail and buy an ornament for that year and cards for our family. She then would take us out to lunch at Elephant and Castle, (best fish n chips restaurant in PDX) then we would ride the bus home. She always said if we laughed at anyone we would get off the bus and walk home! Putting all those ornaments on the tree is always bittersweet. She would have loved the way Jillian carefully places them on the branches; its as if she's holding the memory gently in her hand.
I can only imagine the times they would have had on the bus!

  4. Let me guess. That Death Star was around for a few years until one day you and some friends had some fire crackers and got bored one day . . .
That's usually the fate of those sort of toys. Little did you know you could sell it on ebay today for $100.
